Documenting because you want to, not because you have to!

Does the thought of documentation make you shudder? Always behind and playing catch up?
In this session we’ll begin by exploring what documentation is and what we use it for. You’ll discover documentation requirements in the Australian context, and how as education and care practitioners we can use documentation to enrich our programs and make them authentic and meaningful. You’ll consider how documentation can move from displaying what children are doing, to a powerful representation of learning that can tick all of the boxes when it comes to planning, communication and assessing children’s learning and development. This session combines theory and practice and will leave you with strategies to implement at your service that will make a difference to the way that you document when you go back to your service.

Jennifer Ribarovski

Jennifer Ribarovski has over thirty years’ experience in the education and care sector. Her roles have included NSW State Operations Manager for the NSW Regulatory Authority, with her work largely focussed on the roll out and implementation of the NQF in NSW, and training Authorised Officers to assess and rate centres against the National Quality Standard. Following this role, she was then contracted to work for the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) as a senior advisor. Her work included developing the process for applying for an excellent rating, assessing applications for excellence and developing online training modules for authorised officers nationally in relation to the NQF and assessing and rating services against the NQS. Jennifer also trained authorised officers across Australia in the assessment and rating process, and worked with state and territory governments on national policy in the implementation of the National Quality Framework. Most recently, Jennifer has written a curriculum for a large national provider of early learning centres and she has consulted to and facilitated professional development sessions for a range of approved providers and educational teams across Australia. She has a unique ability to translate the theories of early childhood learning and development into pedagogical practice in accessible and supportive ways. Jennifer is also currently contracted to Sydney University to design and deliver units of study to both undergraduate and postgraduate students in early childhood education programs. She is about to embark on an exciting cross cultural project in China delivering learning and development sessions to Chinese Principals and teachers on play and enquiry based practice in early childhood. Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) and a Master of Educational Leadership and Management with Distinction.
