Event description

Description

Anybody who uses psych tests should consider this question. Can candidates create the impression that they want in completing psychological assessments, particularly for recruitment purposes?

SACS has an extremely valuable database of psych test responses to address this question. From primary research into issues such as personality we have the responses of people who have completed these tests in a pure research setting with no consequences. But we also have responses of exactly the same people on exactly the same tests with the only difference being that they complete them whilst applying for a job.

Through SACS’ research partnership with Dr Jeromy Anglim from Deakin University, this question has been rigorously examined. Jeromy is a lecture in research methods as part of the organisational program in the school of Psychology and has helped SACS to learn some fascinating truths about the nature of faking of psych tests.

Join us for a two hour Evidence-Based Insight to find answers to questions such as:

  • How different are psych test results gained from a job application – do people fake?
  • If there are differences, is this evidence of faking? If you fill in a psych test when you’re applying for a job are the differences due to faking or do people simply bring a different mindset?
  • Does all of this invalidate the use of psych tests for recruitment purposes?
  • How do psych tests in job application settings compare with other recruitment methods? Interviews, for instance?
  • Where to from here and what does all this suggest that recruiters should do to ensure that we are using the most accurate recruitment methods?

The seminar will be co-presented by Andrew Marty from SACS and Jeromy Anglim from Deakin. It will be a practical, participative workshop which will send you away with the latest information on this extremely important topic.
