Description

DLF Lunch Series: Open World Learning: Gamifying Student Motivation and Engagement

Presenters: Danielle Teychenne, Interactive Media Developer, Faculty of Health, Emily Wade, Digital Media Educator and Social Media Specialist and Adam Brown, Senior Lecturer in Digital Media

A repeat performance of the gamified presentation from 2019's 'Teaching Differently' conference, which unpacks what we can learn from sandbox-style video games to benefit learning design and teaching. The emphasis within 'open world' games on exploratory environments, user agency and continuous leveling up promises considerable value in the Digital Learning space. So saddle up and let us take you through a variety of worlds of our own making to highlight how these aspects can help enhance student motivation and engagement!! (Warning: you will be exposed to sound effects, corny one-liners, and a strong likelihood of having to make choices of your own.)
