DIY SOUND DESIGN: The Artistry of Production

ROLAND TINGS and DONATACHI

Tuesday August 20
6 pm - 7:30 pm
Liveschool studios

In this talk, we hear from two artists on defining their own sound. One is a Liveschool graduate, the other our current Artist In Residence - and both will share their sound design tips and tricks, covering everything from preset modification, synthesis and sampling, through to Ableton's new CV Tools for modular synthesis.

The industry now thrives on abundant access to new music, driving huge demand for content - but how do you differentiate yourself as an artist and stand out from the crowd? Sound preset services have subscribers by the million, but deciding who you are and crafting that sonic identity is now more important than ever.

WHO THIS EVENT IS FOR:

Anyone looking to step forward on the artist / producer path and define their own sound.

About ROLAND TINGS:

Melbourne-based producer Roland Tings has stamped his name both locally and internationally with his own unmistakable brand of oddball house music. His debut LP that saw him immediately picked up as Triple J's featured album was the first step in his graduation from the underground to the festival circuit, where he supported artists like Jamie XX, Todd Terje, Nick Murphy, Palms Trax and Chrome Sparks on tour.

To define the next part of his career, he spent a year producing in a remote house on the Great Ocean Road, and has emerged with a new sound and a new album to be released later in 2019.

About DONATACHI:

Before even graduating from Liveschool's Produce Music programme, Donatachi released his first single with fellow-student Tashka. He's gone on to sign with Etc Etc and defined a bubblegum-tech sound so distinct it's taken him to exactly where he's been aiming. Kim Petras picked him for her Mardi Gras tour, Kate Miller Heideke gave him official remix duties for Eurovision, and Danatachi (a fake Donatachi) has been trying to catfish fans by selling bootlegs of his music.
