About Cate McQuillen

Cate McQuillen is the creator and producer of dirtgirlworld, a children’s television series that uses 3D CGI animation and photomontage to tell the story of a pig-tailed gumboot-wearing Dirtgirl and friends who extoll the virtues of conservation and appreciation of nature.

The first of 52 episodes aired in 2009 on CBC in Canada, followed by Australia’s ABC, before being picked up by CBeebies in the UK and Sprout in the US. Since then dirtgirlworld has been distributed to over 128 countries and translated into French, Korean and Polish, amongst other languages. The dirtgirlworld brand traverses media platforms including books, apps, a website and social media platforms. There’s also a line of branded garbage trucks.

The series has been nominated for a BAFTA, Prix Jeunesse award a Logie. In 2013 the series received the Interactive Production of the Year Award at the 2013 Screen Producers Australia Award and won the International Digital Emmy for Children and Young People.

All while living in the small, country town of Whiporie near Grafton in NSWs Northern Rivers region.

Cate’s unconventional approach to TV production in an industry known for its fickle nature believes so much of her success has to do with wearing her heart on her sleeve, being led by her values, gathering a great team and encouraging them into them doing their best work.
