Event description

Description

This session is aimed at property and construction professionals who must understand the legal and compliance rules around disability and the built environment. Non-compliance can lead to additional costs, legal action and reputational risk. This session is of a particular interest to property owners & managers, developers, agents, project managers and construction consultants.

The 2015 Survey of Disability, Ageing and Carers (SDAC) estimated that 4.2 million Australians, or approximately 18% of the population, had a disability. SDAC defines disability as any limitation, restriction or impairment which restricts everyday activities and has lasted, or is likely to last, for at least six months. This statistic has remained relatively constant.

The The Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth) (DDA), Disability Access to Premises Standard and the National Construction Code all play a part in ensuring that that there is equitable access to premises and services for those with a disability.

This interactive and engaging half day session is led by Lindsay Perry. She is a registered architect, accredited access consultant and livable housing assessor holding a Bachelor degree in Architecture and a Master of Disability Studies.
