Red Hill Innovations: Damian Murphy is an Engineer and Innovation leader with over 28 years experience in the design and management of bespoke structural and façade engineering projects, in Australia and internationally. His specialty lies in Architecturally challenging buildings, exposed structure, lightweight and glass structures, façade systems, long span structures. This includes projects that cover a broad range of building types, including airports, commercial, mixed use, performing arts centers, civic buildings, museums, hospitals, retail developments, public spaces, sports facilities and bespoke designs.As the founding Director of Red Hill Innovations Damian seeks to uncover the true meaning of human centered design in the construction industry by creating stakeholder engagement exercises using digital tools and added value to enable operational experiences.

Projects that lie at the intersection of these ideals include;

BAC Skywalk Wayfinding VR project (Aurecon)

BAC SUP virtual design concepts (Aurecon)

Gold Coast Airport Terminal multi-functional VR model (Aurecon)

Activated House Design with costing (Red Hill Innovations + TAFE Queensland Gold Coast)

By continuing to uncover meaningful operational activities in the Virtual world we can make faster and better decisions in the real world.

Watkins Steel/ Holovision: Des Watkins, Managing Director. The Watkins Steel Group has been based in Brisbane since 1968 providing end to end design, drafting, fabrication and installation solutions to the construction, industrial manufacturing, mining, technology and many other sectors. Employing 100 people in high skilled trades, design, site based delivery and leading edge VR and AR roles, the Group uses the latest 3D visualization technologies with advanced robotics to produce an infinite variety of steel structures with unparalleled accuracy. It has transformed the part that steel fabrication plays in providing modern structures and systems that we all rely on every day.

Holovision was created in 2018 spearheaded by the innovative spirit of Watkins Group, to manage an increasing demand for optimised workflows capable of capturing, transforming, registering, and displaying data within acceptable time-frames, supporting risk mitigation and decision making processes. The construction industry in particular, is experiencing a faster data growth rate due to the high accuracy sensors used for surveying and quality assurance. Machine-generated data is expected to add to this complex information workflow, increasing the demand for optimised processes capable of crunching Terabytes of data extracted by sensory equipment mounted on robotics agents such as drones and AGVs.

This data explosion started to be deployed on different spatial realms through VR, AR and more recently Mixed Reality experiences. The future success of Australian Industry requires business leaders of the future to adapt to new strategies for implementing these technologies in their organizations. Our goal in this presentation is to highlight the differences between VR and AR applications in our industry, looking at some case studies developed to support our clients in Steel Manufacturing and Construction.

Of interest to industry, students, educators, people interested in technology and VR.

Industry partners include Watkins Steel, Holovision, Austech Connect, Red Hill Industries, Maxart, Croomo, Professor Tech - The Create Lab, Fika Entertainment, TAFE Queensland
