Event description

Description

The Digital Media Research Centre at Queensland University of Technology and the Institute for the Advanced Study of the Humanities at the University of Queensland are proud to announce Digital Transactions in Asia, the second annual research symposium of the Digital Asia initiative. In contemporary Asia, the breathtaking rapidity and scale of digitisation is remaking human relationships. For ordinary people, social media platforms bring new economic opportunities along with the monetisation of the personal and the everyday. Asian markets are increasingly determined by flows of virtual capital, information commodities, consumers and labour. This symposium considers the instances and processes through which new sets of social, economic and political transactions are being established between citizens and states, markets and publics, cultures and commodities in a Digital Asia.

Invited speakers to the symposium include: Ravi Sundaram (Centre for Study of Developing Societies, New Delhi), Cheryll Soriano (De La Salle University, Manila), Yu Hong (University of Southern California), John Postill (RMIT, Melbourne), Michael Keane (Curtin University), Gerard Goggin (University of Sydney), Vibodh Parthasarathi (Jamia Millia Islamia), and Sangeet Kumar (Denison University).
