Event description

Description

This is an introduction to the WA Digital Technologies Curriculum by way of making and design, using the micro:bit microcontroller board, and Microsoft’s easy and powerful MakeCode block-based coding environment.
We will consider how Microsoft tools can support teachers to develop collaborative units of work and provide you with online resources and templates.
In this hands-on session, we will use the BBC micro-bit and explore ways that this can be used to support the digital technologies curriculum and ideas for cross-curricular projects.
The BBC micro:bit is an inexpensive pocket-sized computer that you can code, customise and control to bring your digital ideas, games and apps to life.
You can code the micro:bit with visual block-based programming or general-purpose programming languages such as JavaScript or Python, making this an ideal tool for both primary and secondary students.
The super easy, non-intimidating user experience and extensive wireless and sensor features mean it can be used across the school, including curriculum subjects such as science, design, maths, music, art and computing.
Attendees will have hands-on time learning the exciting features of the micro:bit and explore lesson activities for students to invent, plan and create digital solutions with applications across the curriculum.

Suitable for teachers of Years 3-8. Please bring a laptop.
If you have any questions, please email Steven Payne: v-stpay@microsoft.com
