Description

The University of Sydney will be hosting the Digital Sydney Information Session in Beijing on Tuesday 24 April.

The University provides undergraduate and postgraduate degrees across a broad range of digital fields, including media, communications, contemporary art, digital cultures, design thinking, visual arts, screen arts, photomedia, film and moving image, design computing, interactive design, and music.

During the event, parents and students will have the opportunity to hear from four of our leading academics from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning, and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and we have included some information about them below.

This event will provide you with a better understanding of the degrees offered at the University of Sydney, as well as the application and admission processes.

Dr Fiona Martin

Dr Fiona Martin researches digital journalism and dialogic technologies, as well as the uses, politics and regulation of online media (internet, web, mobile and social media) and the implications of these technologies for media industry change. Fiona is a former community and ABC radio broadcaster and a cross-media journalist, with fifteen years experience as a journalism educator.

Dr Stefan Popescu

Dr Stefan Popescu is a filmmaker and academic and is currently one of the directors of the Sydney Underground Film Festival. Having completed his PhD in Film and Digital Art in 2007, he has written and directed three independent feature films, and more recently was Associate Producer for Sydney Film Production Company’s adaptation of the award winning The Paper Menagerie.

Dr Ivan Zavada

Dr Ivan Zavada brings an interdisciplinary approach to visual music by exploring the synergy and correlation between diverse forms of media, from the micro-variations of sound waves to large scale digital video projections to create an immersive listening and visual experience. His most recent collaborations include immersive sound mixing for domes and planetariums to accompany images of aurora borealis (northern lights), and his works have been performed in Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, Europe, North and South America.

Liam Bray

Liam Bray is the co-program director of the design computing degree at The University of Sydney’s Design Lab. His research explores how new technologies provide us with the ability to solve creative problems in new and novel ways. His current work involves developing human-centred tools that support creativity, focusing on enhancing creative practice through the lens of interaction design and user experience.
