Description

A digital content strategy provides the over-arching guide as to what and how you provide and manage digital content on your websites and social media channels. A content strategy usually addresses the: purpose, governance rules, content principles, management approach, resourcing and digital publishing solution.

Join us for this full-day workshop with peers from government agencies and learn how to develop a highly effective content strategy for your agency.

The DTA will be represented at the workshops to answer queries about their Content Guide, the Digital Service Standard and other resources.

Throughout the workshop we will be referencing the DTA’s Digital Service Standard and digital content strategies that we have developed for government agencies.

Workshop Content

Morning – 9.00am – 12.30pm

  • Concepts: what is a digital content strategy; key elements; terminology and jargon; what the DTA’s Digital Service Standard says
  • Logistics: the journey of developing a digital content strategy; scope and style options; co-design and collaboration

Afternoon – 1.15pm – 4.15pm

  • Researching: your charter and purpose; your customers’ expectations; your readiness – internal capabilities, capacity and culture; the external environment and trends
  • Composing: designing the strategy; what to include
  • Socialising: how to achieve internal buy-in with stakeholders

The workshop format is a mix of presentation, discussion, practical exercises, examples, group work and interaction between participants.

Morning and afternoon tea and lunch included.

Numbers are limited to 15 people so we encourage you to get in early.


Your facilitator

Steven Smith

Steven founded United Focus in 1995 and has spent the last 21 years helping clients to make sense of the digital world. Steven’s passion is the Digital Age and believes in the unprecedented opportunities for everyone to connect, communicate, participate, influence, understand and simply to have fun. Steven has delivered content strategy and writing workshops for government content managers, writers and editors for over ten years. He was chief editor of sa.gov.au and has written three gov.au websites. He wrote the online Website Writing Guide and book, Living Websites.

Last year he delivered writing for the Web and digital strategy workshops in Canberra to agencies including the ATO, Defence, Health, ABCC and the DVA.

Steven was a Director in digital consulting at KPMG Australia, has chaired conferences on managing government websites, and has written a book about it, Living Websites. He is Chair of the SA Council of the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) – the home of the iAwards.
