INFORMATION

• A songwriting workshop for primary school students ages 7-12

• Preferably 12 children, each needs to buy themselves a ukulele. DIAM will find a provider at the most affordable price (Price TBC)

• Teaching songwriting on the ukulele as a instrument they can all learn and write simple melodies to understand collaboration.

• x2 day workshop to master a cover, write an original as a class and in groups of three create their own songs on ukulele. Ending in a performance at a venue (TBC) for friends and family.

TIMETABLE **Subject to change depending on enrolments

DAY 1

• 10am-10.15 Introduction, Holly sing a song, who I am and how the workshop will run.

• 10.15-10.45 Getting to know you games so all the kids are loosened up and in a fun headspace, musical chairs…

• 10.45- 11.05 Individual singing warm ups (covid conscious)

• 11.05-11.20 Short break

• 11.20- 12.35pm Teach ukulele + a simple cover song, 'You are my sunshine'

• 12.35- 1.20 Lunch break

• 1.20-1.30 A game like ‘red light green light’ to motivate

• 1.30-1.50 ukulele practice of cover song.

• 1.50-2.20song structure lesson with pop examples.

• 2.20-3.15pm an all class songwriting activity lead by Holly, so students are ready to write their own songs tomorrow. (This song will also be performed for parents). Play on uke and sing a line each.

DAY 2

• 10.00-10.15 Opening game such as islands (motivates class to energise).

• 10.15- 10.30 Sing through the whole class song written yesterday and cover song.

• 10.30- 10.45 Kids write a song topic/idea in a circle and place in a hat.

• 10.45- 10.50 Divide class into groups of threes.

• 10.50- 11.30 Groups write their own song on the ukulele based off what topic they received from the hat.

• 11.30- 11.45 Short Break.

• 11.45-12.00 Each group plays their original song to the class.

• 12.00- 1.00 Finishing group original songs.

• 1.00 - 1.50 Lunch

• 1.50-2.10 Play again the finalised group x4 songs to the class.

• 2.10- 2.40 Play through the ukulele cover, the x4 group originals and finally the whole class unison original song.

• 2.40-3.15 Play calming and fun game, sleeping lions or just a break.
