Description

"Dialogue is the lamp" - An event to celebrate the rehousing of the former CPACS (Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies) Peace Poster Collection and the book launch of “Peace, Justice and the Poetic Mind,” Conversations on the path of non-violence by Stuart Rees and Daisaku Ikeda

Emeritus Professor Stuart Rees, founder of Sydney Peace Foundation, human rights activist and author will be guest speaker. The evening will include impressions, poetry and jazz improvisation on peace and dialogue. There will be opportunity for dialogue amongst the guests and new friends over refreshments.

“The poetic mind cannot tell people what to do but can excite and motivate. The poetic mind cannot claim to have answers, but thinking poetically begins to realize human potential because it depends on humour and insight plus a willingness to laugh at oneself and to ponder life’s wonders, cruelties, and absurdities.” -Stuart Rees

“Dialogue is not some simplistic assertion of one’s own position, nor is it necessarily about persuading others to one’s point of view. Dialogue is about demonstrating respect for another’s life, and being determined to learn when confronted with differences in personality and perspective."

“Without dialogue, humans are fated to walk in the darkness of their own dogmatic self-righteousness. Dialogue is the lamp by which we dispel that darkness, lighting and making visible for each other our steps and the path ahead.” - Daisaku Ikeda
