For GPs, Nurses & Allied Health Professionals

This session will provide updated information on the importance of foot examinations for diabetic patients. The presenters will cover the ssessment of diabetic foot ulcers and diabetic foot emergencies, the role and function of diabetic foot clinics and appropriate referral pathways.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Describe the importance of foot examinations and imparting knowledge about foot care to people with diabetes.

  • Discuss how to assess the severity of diabetic foot ulcers in terms of blood supply, wound infection, associated soft tissue, or bone involvement, along with the systemic features of sepsis.

  • Explain the role and function of an interdisciplinary diabetes foot clinic team.

  • Identify diabetic foot emergencies and discuss referral pathways for diabetes foot conditions and emergencies.
