Description
The high prevalence of diabetes and the additional risks it imposes on the health of the individual means that all health professionals staffing hospitals and health care services are involved in the care of people with diabetes
This 3 day training course will supply participants with best practice diabetes management and the capacity to impart accurate information and advice to people with diabetes.
The course does not give participants' accreditation to work as a Diabetes Educator or other expert in the field of diabetes. However, this is a nationally recognised course and the National Association of Diabetes Centres will issue a Certificate of Achievement to participants on completion of the course.
On completion of the training, course participants will be able to:

Understand the prevalence, pathophysiology, detection and prevention of diabetes.

Provide best practice evidence based education and information to support self-management in patients/clients with diabetes.

Understand the pharmacological diabetes management: insulin, non- insulin injectables and oral hypoglycaemia agents.

Identify problems with diabetes care and appropriate referral pathways

Advise clients about available support and clinical services.
