Life is bittersweet to everyone irrespective of any petty differences. As we walk along the path, we experience how unsettling and uncertain life can be more than ever. Through skillful practice of applying the Dharma in the face of challenges, we are able to surf through the strongest wave in balance.

What does the Dharma offer during hard times?

Where is the starting point?

Is it possible to build a secure base?

Join us with Gawaine Powell Davies in this evening where we will learn to discover Dharma amidst the challenges in life.

Teachers Profile:

Gawaine has had a lifelong interest in the ideas of Buddhism, starting with a chance encounter at age 13 with Christmas Humphrey’s book on Buddhism. He took up dharma practice seven years ago, since when he has sat regularly with Bluegum sangha. He has been delightfully noticing how mysterious things come to life – and into his life – in very practical ways. He is now exploring how other long term interests such as philosophy and storytelling can be woven into the fabric of the dharma practice.

All Sessions by Dana (donation).

Dana is the traditional practice of generosity, the extending of one’s goodwill, which is fundamental to Buddhism and other spiritual traditions. The teachings flourish in an atmosphere of generosity and gratitude, and these qualities in turn support the growth of wisdom and compassion in the practitioner. The instructions and guidance for this course are offered without requesting a specified fee and it is up to individuals to determine the amount of dana they would like to offer. It can sometimes be easy to become confused when we are new to this and we wonder “how much should I give?” This is a relevant question in the material economy but an appropriate dana cannot be prescribed but requires sensitivity to its intent and awareness of the costs and expenses associated with organising a course (e.g., administrative & venue costs).
