Title: Considering a Sugary Sweet Beverages (SSBs) tax?

Lecture Objectives:

- Explore high-fructose corn syrup in SSBs and its health effects on the body

- Update on obesity issue in Australia, Mexico, UK & USA

- Identify advertising comparisons of the SSB Industry to Tobacco Industry

- Understand the different SSBs tax models and how it translates to existing and potential strategies to combat overconsumption of sugary drinks

- Explore the role of Oral Health Therapists and Dental Hygienists in advocating a SSBs tax

Ian is an Oral Health Therapist and completed a Bachelor of Oral Health (BOH) degree from The University of Sydney, and has clinical experience in Public Health Dentistry at NSW Health. He recently completed a Master of Public Health (MPH) at The University of Sydney, and is passionate about Health Promotion and Health Advocacy, especially amongst adolescents linking Oral Health with General Health.

Ian currently volunteers for the Dental Hygienists Association of Australia (DHAA) Ltd. as the Chair of Oral Health Promotion/Public Health Special Interest Group (OHPPHSIG) which is heavily involved in the Rethink Sugary Alliance, a partnership between 16 allied health and community organisations concerned about tackling the overconsumption of sugary drinks.

Ian is currently Executive Assistant at The Centre for Sleep Health & Research, Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine of The Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and works with a multidisciplinary team looking at Dental Sleep Medicine and treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) with Mandibular Advancement Splints (MAS).

Lyn is a Clinical Dental Hygienist, Professional & Personal Coach and Team Strategist.

 

Lyn graduated from Adelaide, Dental Hygiene in 1986 and has worked in many practices in London, Queensland and Adelaide, mostly in private general practice with a brief ortho appearance.  Lyn has experience as a DA, receptionist, practice manager, and practice owner.  She is a clinical tutor with BDS3 and BOH3 at Adelaide Uni.

Lyn had gained firsthand experience as both an employee and employer and overcoming challenges when she became a business owner in 2008. Lyn is the current Chair of DHAA SA and is passionate and dedicated to the dental profession and growing the profile of our unique and important role as Dental Hygienists and Oral Health Therapists.

 

Lyn is currently following her passion and completing a 3-year study program on Human Behaviour and is a Certified Meta Dynamics ™Level I & is currently completing Level II practitioner & EDISC Behavioural Consultant.   In her business, Lync Consulting, Lyn understands the important and unique role each individual brings to their practice, and the business itself.  She supports individuals and practices be the best they can be with their unique vision in mind.

Cancellation Policy - Ten (10) days notice must be given in writing to vice-president@dhaa.info, if you cannot attend, to receive a refund. Reimbursements will not be made after this time. Failure to advise of cancellation may result in you being invoiced for the cost of catering. Registration can be transferred to another person of the same membership status.
