The DHAA NSW cant wait for its biggest event of the year!


We are excited to announce for our full day event we will be partnering with the charirty "Love Your Sister Foundation" to raise funds for cancer research. We will be donating a percentage of all ticket sales from the day along with an exclusive raffle!

You can also elect to donate money via Eventbrite when purchasing a ticket, donations are in $10 amounts and you can choose as many as you would like.

Presenters and Synopsis:

1.Roisin McGrath - Mental Health

Ms Roisin McGrath DipDH (London), DipDT (London), GradCertIntHealth (Perth), MPH (Melbourne)

Roisin McGrath is Lecturer and PhD candidate at the Melbourne Dental School (University of Melbourne) and her research project focuses on building capacity of community mental health workers to support people living with serious mental illness in addressing their oral health needs. Roisinhas over 25 years of experience in the oral health field and has worked as a clinician in a range of settings, in both the UK and Australia. In addition to her dental qualifications (dental assistant, dental hygienist and dental therapist), Roisin also has a Graduate Certificate in International Health and a Masters of Public Health (Sexual Health).

Roisin has worked as a lecturer, clinical demonstrator and examiner at the University of Melbourne, La Trobe University and RMIT. She has held non-clinical positions in health promotion at Dental Health Services Victoria and outreach/volunteer dental program management with the Royal Flying Doctor Service Victoria. She is past-president of the Dental Hygienists Association of Australia Victorian Branch and has represented the DHAA on a number of committees and advisory groups. Roisin is the Chair of the local organising committee for the International Symposium on Dental Hygiene, which will be held in Brisbane in 2019.

Synopsis:

Almost half of all Australians will experience a mental disorder during their lifetime. Yet stigma still surrounds mental illness and discussing one’s mental health status. This session will present the profile of mental illnesses in Australia and the links between mental health and oral health. It will provide strategies for providing appropriate oral health care for people living with mental illness.

2. Danielle Begg - Trauma Recovery

Danielle is the Co-founder and CEO of The Yoga Impact Charity, a not for profit providing evidence based, taruma sensitive yoga programs that improve physical and psychological health. The Yoga Impact Charity partners with not for profit organisations, government and schools to provide yoga at no cost to groups of all ages healing from torture and trauma. in 2017 The Yoga Impact Charity delivery 250 trauma sensitive yoga classes in 12 locations.

Danielle is also an advocate of the inclusion of yoga within health services and has presented at a variety of workshops and conferences globally including the North American Refugee Health Conference in Toronto, Australia and New Zealands Refugee Trauma Recovery in Resettlement Conference, The Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research Conference and Settlement Services International from Settlement to Belonging Conference.

Danielle recently completed Harvard Medical Shool Global Mental Health Trauma and Recovery Certificate Program. She is also certified yoga teacher and holds a masters of Science in Comparative Social Policy from the University of Oxford and a Bachalor Psychological Science (Hons) from the University of Queensland. She is a recipient of the Centenary Medal for her contribution to social justice.

Synopsis:

In 2012, Danielle decided to step off the traditional career path and pursue work as a yoga teacher. Recognising the healing effects of yoga, Danielle sought to combine her background in psychology, social policy and yoga, with her desire to do grassroots community service, and co-founded The Yoga Impact Charity. The charity provides evidence-based trauma sensitive yoga classes to refugees of varying age and background. Having taught over 400 classes across Western Sydney, Danielle will take you on the highs and the lows of the journey to finding her true passion.


3. Dr Sue-Ching Yeoh - Oral Pathology, Cancer in the dental surgery

BDS(Syd), MDSC(Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology), FRACDS, FRACDS(Oral Med), FICD, FOMAA, MPhil

Dr Yeoh is a board registered Oral Medicine specialist a in Oral Medicine and maintains a specialist private practice in both Sydney and Canberra. She is also a Consultant Oral Medicine Specialist at the Royal Prince Alfred and Liverpool Hospitals, and is a Visiting Specialist at the Canberra Hospital.

Dr Yeoh holds a Clinical Lecturer appointment at the University of Sydney. Dr Yeoh is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in both the General Stream as well as the Special Fields Stream of Oral Medicine. She is the currently serving as the Treasurer of the Oral Medicine Academy of Australasia.

Dr Yeoh has published widely in peer reviewed journals, and has presented many continuing education courses nationally and internationally. Her clinical interests lie in oral mucosal disease, salivary gland dysfunction and orofacial pain. Dr Yeoh is currently pursuing ongoing research in the field of autoimmune vesiculobullous conditions.
