Event description

Description

Director: Alyson Campbell

Written by Gertrude Stein, presented by Acting Company 19 and graduating Production students.

Gertrude Stein, one of the giants of modernist formalism, takes the Faust myth for what could be seen as an eco-feminist spin: selling your soul for electric light. Our production, DFLTLX, asks how we might think about that now, in terms of the pact we have each made with technology, and explores the impact of her brilliant, sparkling text in performance.

Please note: the performance on 18th June at 7.30pm will be followed by a Q+A, featuring director Alyson Campbell (Associate Professor in Theatre (Dramaturgy and Directing) at the University of Melbourne), Paul Rae (Associate Professor in Theatre Studies at the University of Melbourne), and Sarah Balkin (Lecturer in English and Theatre Studies at the University of Melbourne).

We strongly encourage booking in advance for all of our events. This guarantees your seat, and allows us to communicate any unforeseen event scheduling changes with you. Please note, tickets are required for entry to paid events.
