The Dyslexia Victoria Support Group - Far North Melbourne is committed to supporting parents and children whose lives are affected by Dyslexia. We hold monthly meetings for support, information and Professional Development. All our meetings are free to attend.
The October Meeting will be a great chance to learn developing Resilience & Coping skills for children with learning
difficulties. The meeting will meet standards for Professional Development.
Andrew Bridge will be a guest speaker; he will be presenting an information session for parents and professionals, on developing Resilience & Coping skills for children with learning difficulties. Andrew has over 30 years experience in teaching and is a Program Coordinator for ‘Success and Dyslexia’. The program is a unique, evidence based program that assists all children, but especially those with Dyslexia.
After Andrew's presentation we will be screening Outside the Square - Film 2 – Targeted Teaching for Students with Dyslexia.
Outside the Square is an Australian series of documentary films to increase awareness and understanding of dyslexia in our education system.
• Film 1 – Understanding and Identifying Dyslexia
• Film 2 – Targeted Teaching for Students with Dyslexia
• Film 3 – The Explicit Teaching of Language and Literacy
In the films, we share the difficulties encountered by students, the transformations of proactive teachers and the expertise of Australia’s leading education researchers. Educators can develop a deep understanding of dyslexia and we showcase effective teaching strategies to assist students with dyslexia in the classroom.
The idea for the documentary was an outcome of the dyslexia policy roundtable hosted by Minister for Education and Training, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP in June last year and features Australia’s leaders in dyslexia education. The project was community funded using Kickstarter crowd funding and received a Commonwealth grant from the Department of Education and Training.
