Developing A Courageous Mind
Tue. 8 November 2016, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm AEDT
Exploring Buddhism, Psychotherapy and the Awakening…with Dr. Eng Kong Tan!
Date: 7pm-9pm, Tuesday 8 November
What is courage? How do we cultivate it?
Dr. Eng-Kong Tan will share his experiences as the therapist with the patient who demonstrates courage on the psychotherapy journey – the therapist gathers courage from his own experiences to support the patient through painful and fearful times in therapy. The patient shows courage, often courage he/she did not expect to find, in meeting and attending to their pain.
Similarly, in our meditative states it take courage to go deeper to tap into the void, the real Dhamma within us that is Wisdom & Compassion, which in turn gives us strength and courage to meet, manage and resolve our suffering.
Again, with bodhicitta, we take heart and we develop the bravery to engage with life and its challenges. As an awakened warrior, the Bodhisatva courageously engages and gives commitment to face adverse circumstances to transform them into the path. In our daily living, it takes courage to remain and continue on the Eight Fold Path.
In this presentation Dr. Eng-Kong Tan will describe the various types of courage and he will lead a meditative exercise on the cultivation of courage.
