Please join us for the DestinationQ 2019 Forum and Masterclasses, held at Novotel Twin Waters, from 7 - 8 November.

The annual DestinationQ Forum is Queensland’s leading tourism industry event, bringing industry and government together to connect, collaborate and share knowledge to grow the visitor economy.

The forum will once again coincide with the Queensland Tourism Industry Councils Destination Indigenous Forum. Register here for the Destination IQ Forum, and the Queensland Tourism Awards.

The year’s DestinationQ Forum will include a range of keynote addresses, practical breakout sessions and panel discussions.

Theme: Tourism beyond 2020 - Innovating for the Future

Day 1 - Thursday 7th November

Masterclasses - Breakout sessions

  • Understanding the USA market. Objective: To provide key insights into the customer journey of the USA High Value Traveller (HVT) highlighting future opportunities for Queensland and giving practical advice on how operators can connect with and deliver on the expectations of this market.
  • The Future of Travel Distribution – Maximising Opportunities in the Distribution System. Objective: Inspire industry, show the changing nature of distribution, highlight the need to be responsive to market changes, give practical and tangible ways of how to distribute product.
  • Why Quality Matters. Objective: Build business awareness of the value a focus on tourism quality can bring to all areas of business operation.
  • Risky Business - Planning for the Unthinkable. Objective: Provide insights into planning for and recovering from disaster. With real-life learnings and experiences in different types of disaster, our experts will cover everything from reputational risk to providing practical tips on how to plan for the unthinkable to promote business continuity.

  • Keith Henry - CEO and President, Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada
  • John Schoffield - University of York

Day 2 - Friday 8th November

  • Keynote speaker: Acacia Leroy - Trendwatching - This highly engaging session will provide insights on the global tourism industry. The focus will be future looking with a particular focus on trends and opportunities for Queensland
  • Q&A Session - Leaders Panel Discussion with the Hon. Kate Jones MP
  • An Emerging Leaders Panel led by Paul Scurrah - Virgin Australia with Nick Ellis - General Manager, OVOLO Inchcolm, Jackie Babbage - Cofounder, Gifting Owl, Isa Grube – Industry Development and Sustainability Coordinator, Tourism Noosa, Scott Merrick – Assistant Brand Manager, Bundaberg Rum, William Enoch-Tranby - Sales Executive, Cultural Development Officer, CaPTA Group, Cairns and Chern'ee Sutton – a contemporary aboriginal artist.
  • A discussion on International Education and how it intersects with tourism and events. Involving Shannon Willoughby CEO, Study Queensland, Leanne Coddington CEO, Tourism and Events Queensland and Dr. Greg Hill, Vice-Chancellor and President, University of Sunshine Coast, and
  • Opportunities to speak to and hear from Ministers from the State Government.

NEW! A travel subsidy for delegates from shires affected by the North & Far North Queensland Monsoon Trough weather event.

A travel subsidy, jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), will be made available for delegates who meet the following criteria:

  • work or volunteer in a tourism or events related workforce role within a local government area that was activated for DRFA for the Monsoon Trough and that relies heavily on tourism;
  • use the bursary to travel to and attend the 2019 DestinationQ Events Conference in Cloncurry in August 2019
  • Reside in one of the affected regions.

These bursaries will assist tourism operators from flood impacted communities make industry connections and develop strategies to boost local tourism and help their communities recover.
