In this, the Year of Outback Tourism, we would like to invite you to join us for the DestinationQ 2019 Events Conference on Tuesday 6th August in Cloncurry, Outback Queensland.

A networking function will also be held the afternoon prior on Monday 5th August in Cloncurry.

The DestinationQ 2019 Events Conference aims to develop and enhance events throughout Queensland. It is a one-day forum for Queensland’s event organisers, tourism operators and stakeholders and is free to attend.

Theme: How our Past Shapes our Future

Be inspired by real life examples of events and destinations that have shown extraordinary resilience and overcome times of extreme adversity. You will hear from speakers that will provide practical guidance on successful event delivery through difficult times.

The day will include Q&A sessions, panel discussions and networking opportunities. During the day you will hear from a variety of speakers on a range of topics including*:

Keynote Speakers

  • Sir Bob Parker - Former Mayor of Christchurch - hear first-hand the impact of earthquakes on Christchurch, and how to plan for and bounce back from the unthinkable
  • Matthew Goodman - New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival - The incredible story of event management in the face of major disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and 9/11. Hear how the event grew to become one of the largest Jazz events in the world.

NEW: A travel subsidy for delegates from shires affected by the North & Far North Queensland Monsoon Trough weather event.

A travel subsidy, jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), will be made available for delegates who meet the following criteria:

  • work or volunteer in an event workforce role within a local government area that was activated for DRFA for the Monsoon Trough and that relies heavily on tourism;
  • use the bursary to travel to and attend the 2019 DestinationQ Events Conference in Cloncurry in August 2019
  • Reside in one of the affected regions.

These bursaries will assist tourism operators from flood impacted communities make industry connections and develop strategies to boost local tourism and help their communities recover.

The DQ19 Events Conference is proudly funded by the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Getting there from South East Queensland

The Queensland Government acknowledge the importance of driving economic and social benefit to Outback Queensland. This is especially important for regions impacted by the recent severe weather events.

In acknowledgment of this - and the Year of Outback Tourism - Cloncurry Shire Council and the Queensland State Government invite Delegates to book on the Queensland State Government assisted DQ19 Events Conference Charter Flight from Brisbane to Cloncurry.

Flight details

  • The charter flight will operate at a special reduced rate to delegates of $330 return (Brisbane to Cloncurry).
  • Strictly limited to 80 passengers and will be booked on a first come first serve basis.
  • Depart Brisbane on Monday, 5 August, 12noon, arrive Cloncurry at 2:30pm
  • Depart Cloncurry on Tuesday 6 August, 6:30pm, arrive Brisbane at 9:00pm
  • Transfers between Cloncurry Airport and Cloncurry township (return) are included in fare price
