Description

This masterclass will equip you with the skills and resources to meet challenges in delivering affordable rental housing, including:

  • Building community acceptance for developments – how can you engage with communities to get their support for affordable rental housing developments?
  • Designing, developing and managing multi-tenure developments – how can you shape strong and diverse communities that work for everybody?


Participants will get access to video and web-based resources to help them to engage with their communities and to build acceptance for affordable rental housing.
After this masterclass, participants will understand:

  • International and national contemporary practice in developing affordable rental housing that delivers sustainable community outcomes
  • The roots of community acceptance for affordable housing development
  • The design features that make a multi-tenure development successful
  • The key principles of developing and managing quality, effective multi-tenure housing


About the presenter

Dr Judith Stubbs is an internationally recognised expert in affordable housing research, policy, economics and strategy. She holds an interdisciplinary PhD in affordable housing policy, land economics and planning law from RMIT, and has won State and National awards related to affordable housing and community planning. She has held a range of honorary positions in leading academic research institutes, government policy bodies and community networks and organisations.

Dr Stubbs established Judith Stubbs and Associates (JSA) in 1996 following a decade in strategic and social planning and affordable housing policy in NSW local government, including in regional and metropolitan councils. As principal of JSA, she has completed a range of relevant projects for diverse government, community and private sector clients focusing on affordable housing research, needs analysis, policy, economic modelling, and strategy; urban renewal of large public and private sites, precincts and whole suburbs; best practice in the development and management of multi-tenure developments and precincts; planning for the housing and service needs of an aging population; and the social and economic impacts of diverse policies, projects and policies.

  • CEOs, development managers and staff of community housing providers and other affordable housing agencies
  • Local government planners and planning consultants
  • Government agencies such as Landcom, Department of Planning and Environment, the Land and Housing Corporation
  • Private developers
