Event description
Join Paper Giant to build expertise and confidence in qualitative research methods as part of HCD and Co-design programs.

About this Event

Human Centred Design (HCD) is an approach that combines research, design and strategy to create human-centred solutions to the complex problems that the world, people and organisations face.

The exploratory research we conduct during the discovery stages in HCD and co-design programs often involves qualitative methods - such as interviews, ethnography, workshops, surveys and diary studies.

In this two hour workshop, we will dive into the concerns and worries we often face when working with qualitative data. In particular, we will address the topics of researcher bias, the role of researchers, how to ensure your methods and approach are rigorous and valid.

After the workshop you'll receive a design synthesis and insight generation guide that will help you to confidently apply advanced methods and explain your process to stakeholders.

This workshop will cover:

- Selecting the appropriate data collection and analysis methods for your objectives

- Coding and thematic analysis and how they derive validity and rigour from grounded theory

- Summarising what a participant group said or did and reporting back for the purposes of advocacy and empathy building

- How to take research beyond summarisation to generate insights, recommendations, and practical takeaways to further the end to end design and decision making process

Who this workshop is for you if:

- You are a design researcher wanting to ensure your insights and work is valued and influential

- You are an innovation or design practitioner wanting to adopt a more ”research-led” approach to your work

- You want to know more about the rigour involved in the magic of design synthesis and insight generation
