Design Minds PD Day with Smithsonian Fellow
Innovation Inquiry for Educators using Library Collections

Design Minds professional development workshops encourage knowledge and skills exchange and development in design education; increase the capacity of Queensland teachers to teach creativity and design; and increase the opportunity for Queensland’s young people to take part in world-class design education projects and activities.
This intimate workshop will take school teachers through guided exercises using the Design Minds process (inquire, ideate, implement), to familiarise participants with publicly accessible educational resources and demonstrate how to use the library collection innovatively for classroom use.

The workshop will be led by Dr. Kathy Mackey, 2015 Smithsonian Fellow* and supported by design mentors, practising designers and educators. Kathy's fellowship research report was entitled ‘The Influence of Cultural Partnerships on Innovation Inquiry within Education: Moving Beyond STE/AM to Participatory Practices’. Morning tea and lunch is provided.

* The Queensland-Smithsonian Fellowships Program supports collaborativeprojects between the Queensland Government and the Smithsonian Institution, based in the United States. It supports fellows from Queensland's research, education and cultural sectors to visit a Smithsonian Institution facility in the United States and complete a project.
