About this Event

Note: This course is only open to participants of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander career pathways service .

Designed by the Public Service Commission and delivered by AIM, it provides the practical skills and confidence to effectively manage people, performance and change. The program helps leaders to understand their leadership style and team dynamics to improve workplace engagement and productivity.

The program combines:

  • a self-paced online module
  • 3 days of face to face action-learning workshops and,
  • a workplace practice activity, completed by participants with the support of their supervisors.

People matters provides the opportunity to not just learn about leadership, but to put your learnings into practice.

People matters aligns to the Queensland Workforce Capability Success Profile for team leaders.

We know that People matters works, with 96% of past participants surveyed saying they acquired practical strategies they could apply in the workplace, and 90% of participants increasing their knowledge and confidence in leading people.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • AO5 - AO8 or equivalent
  • Supervise staff as part of your role
  • Manager's approval

You must be available for all elements in the course

Cost : NIL

All travel and additional expenses are incurred by your business area.

Catering : Morning & Afternoon Tea will be provided, however lunch will be at your own expense.

Program overview

Before program

  • Skills assessment by participants and their supervisors to identify key development areas

Self-paced – online

  • Module 1: leading in the public sector

Day 1 and 2

  • Module 2: leading teams
  • Module 3: communicating effectively
  • Module 4: managing for high performance

Day 3

  • Module 5: leading change
  • Workplace practice activity to embed learnings during or after the program

After program

  • Skills assessment by participants and their supervisors to identify how program learnings are being applied in the workplace.
