DeployStudio

Setting up or re-imaging multiple computers can be a time consuming and onerous task.

This practical hands-on course explores different approaches to deployment of Macs in the workplace or education lab. The course will help reduce the IT department's workload and assist with management strategies. It is intended for IT managers, network/support technicians and interested subject specialists.

Topics and tasks undertaken will include:

Creating a Standard Operating Environment (SOE) for deployment. Discussion of considerations when creating an SOE - including software licensing, binding to servers and machine naming.

Creating a mac disk image and cloning it to another computer .

Setting up Netinstall (Netboot) on an macOS server. Creating a Netboot image .nbi.

Installing DeployStudio on macOS Server.app. Creating images with DeployStudio and uploading them to the server. Deployment from DeployStudio, imaging single computers (and also multicast image deployment to many computers at once). Creating workflows to image multiple disk partitions, including server binding and machine naming.

We finish with a brief look at macOS server managed user settings and options to push settings such as printer drivers or networking settings to clients and management of clients.

Course prerequisites - basic user knowledge of a Macintosh and basic networking.

Software used or discussed during the course: macOS client and macOS Server, Apple Remote Desktop, Disk Utility, Terminal, Carbon Copy Cloner, Winclone, DeployStudio.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of macOS and basic computer navigation

Everything required to complete the course. 2 laptops are provided for your use in the training room for the duration of the course.

Trainer

Richard Gynes, MSc. ACT, ACTC, is an Apple Certified Trainer and service engineer. After studying design and photography Richard worked as a museum photographer in the UK, before moving to education.

His 25 years of experience in education includes: training teachers in video production, teaching photography and working as a Media Resources Manager in Secondary and Primary education. Since 2007 he has been conducting Apple Mac, iPad and software training in Australia.
