Description

Dementia and Palliative Care

Facilitated by Professor Fran McInerney

This workshop will include the dementia trajectory, dementia as a terminal condition, dementia and a palliative approach, advanced dementia symptom management, care planning and communicating with families.

This education session is open to post PEPA placement recipients, specialist palliative care, Community Nursing, Aged Care and Disability Services staff.

Fran McInerney is Professor of Dementia Studies and Education at the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre, University of Tasmania. She is a registered nurse with postgraduate qualifications in education, applied science, sociology and public health. Prof. McInerney's background informs her strong profile in the fields of aged and palliative care, with a specific focus on the needs of people living with dementia. Her research is focused around dementia care and dementia literacy, exploring how much people know about dementia and how they navigate the health system to meet their dementia-related needs.
