Deconstructing the Myth of Chinese "Face"

Guest Speaker: Labao Wang, Director, Australia-China Institute for Arts and Culture

"Face is the core of Chinese culture. If you understand and master it, you can get whatever you want in China" - Lu Xun

Some westerners have been told that it can be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to work with Chinese people due to a common misunderstanding about the concept of "Face". According to Professor Labao Wang, Director, Australia-China Institute for Arts and Culture at Western Sydney University, we shouldn't be held back by this myth.

In this thoughtful and engaging session, we will learn more about how "Face" plays such an important part in business and social interactions, and how we can learn from the mistakes of others.

Note: The format of the workshop is interactive and participative. Members are encouraged to bring business cards and network amongst themselves.

This event is one of our regular monthly meeting of ACSME members in Sydney, chaired by ACSME President, David Thomas (see www.davidthomas.asia). Each session includes a theme, with an invited expert in attendance to lead the discussion, address specific issues and answer questions.
