About this event
Death Cafes are part of a global movement to provide a relaxed & nurturing setting where you can join open & honest discussions to explore the questions you may have about life, death & dying.
Facilitator Gypsy Artemis has been hosting Death Cafes on the Central Coast since 2013, and she is herself now living with Stage 4 terminal breast cancer.
Her role is to guide & support the group whilst we talk life’n’death, drink tea & eat the obligartory cake! (It just wouldnt be a real Death Cafe without cake!!!)
Historically we have found that once we open the metaphorical can of worms re: death, you cannot stop people talking as there are few safe spaces to talk all things death and dying. But what usually happens is that we end up rejoicing and celebrating our own mortality as we recognise that "life is short". Death Cafe really does spark something within those who attend and the conversstion is lively and energised, not morbid and deflated.
The cost covers my time, tea, cake and biccies. As my energy and time are finite resources as I live with cancer, I need to charge for the events I run. However, let money be no barrier - reach out if you would like to attend but finances are tight.
It's been years since I ran a Death Cafe so I am stoked to be doing so! It is ALWAYS a dynamic affair and this one will be no different!
Check out SBS's coverage of the first Death Cafe I ran back in 2012 https://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/watch/39529539509
See you there. Oh and its on the day before Dying to Know Day on 8th August, so perfect timing!!
Love Gypsy
PS We never debate religion so leave that at home. Thanks. AND you don't need to be dying to get alot out of this event...on the contrary!
