Description

Capital, Systems, and Objects

Deakin Business School (DBS) Dean’s Seminar with Professor Richard Watson, will discuss five fundamental systems for creating capital that transcend managerial or technology hype and sustain organisational success.

Organisations face a continuing barrage of new ideas and technologies. In recent years you have likely heard multiple times of digitisation, blockchain, sharing economy, and a host of other managerial and technological innovations. These are means and not goals. It is too easy to become enchanted with a means that seems to solve multiple problems, but the long-term concern must be the enduring goals that a means can help achieve. Professor Watson will discuss an integrated framework for organisational success – capital, systems, and objects – that transcend managerial or technology hype.

Professor Richard Watson

Professor Watson has published over 180 journal articles and written books on electronic commerce, data management, and energy informatics. His most recent book is titled, ‘Capital, Systems, and Objects.’ His work has been accepted by leading academic and practitioner journals and has been translated into several languages.
