Description

Cameron McKenzie is pound for pound Australia’s strongest male Powerlifter, 2016 Oceania champion, multiple world record holder and silver medalist at the IPF World Championships.

He recently finished his bachelor in sports science and works as a personal trainer and powerlifting coach in his hometown of Newcastle NSW. He is an S&C Coach for the ARU and consulting coach for the roosters and intern at the Newcastle Knights.

THEORY

Programming

The day will start off with programming theory, various
peaking methods and the many variations of deadlifts and how to incorporate them into a training program.

  • In-season vs Off-season programming & planning
  • Various peaking methods
  • How/why to incorporate deadlift variations into programming.
  • How/why to incorporate assistance training into programming (post chain, upper back, abs etc).
  • Using lift variations and assistance training to target weak points/technical faults in your deadlift.

Prehab

The second part of the theory will address the importance of prehab. Cameron will speak about the different tools and exercises to maximise potential and prevent injuries.

  • How/why to prehab for the deadlift
  • Identifying the tools used to effectively prehab and why we use them
  • Identifying the areas to target pre-deadlifting
  • Practical demonstration of all prehab movements and involvement from attendees.

Lunch Break - 30mins

grab a bite to eat before we get into the practical part of the day. Kitchen facilities are available and cafes are in the area for a quick bite and a coffee.

PRACTICE

Deadlift Demo/Critique and Coaching the Deadlift

Time to lift! After lunch, we will get straight into warming up to some heavy deadlifts. Cameron will take the time to look at technique, make corrections and teach cues and important coaching points.

  • Demonstration and overview of the deadlift by Cameron
  • Coaching points and cues. How to correct technique.
  • Practical assessment and correction of the deadlift for attendees.

*A hard copy handout will be provided to all attendees so they have a take-home resource.
