Caribbean Sydney presents the "De Workshop!”...

Originating from various islands across the Caribbean, Caribbean dance and music styles have exploded across the world. From funk, to pop, to hip-hop, to k-pop, to twerk, to afrobeats the incredible influence of these exciting styles can be seen everywhere.

De Workshop is your opportunity to learn about these exciting Caribbean and fusion dance styles that are changing the nature of the popular music and dance scenes. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn what it’s all about!

Dance styles:

• Dancehall (Jamaica) – Old skool, new skool, evolution style and queen style.
• Afro-Fusion and Afro-Dancehall (Africa / Jamaica)
• Soca (Trinidad & Tobago) – Caribbean Carnival

Immerse yourself in these dance workshops; and develop your skills with some of Australia’s most accomplished teachers!

De workshops goal is to teach you moves as well as a new understanding and appreciation of the culture/s that create these exciting dances. Learn about the culture, appreciate, and enjoy!

Alexx Mubanga (Zambia) – Dancehall Downunder

From Kitwe, Zambia, we are fortunate to have one of Zambia / Australia’s leading Dancehall choreographers and Instructors at De Workshops. Alexx, is a specialist in Afro-fusion and Jamaican Dancehall dance styles and will be teaching both these styles at De Workshops.

This Australian Dancehall King, regularly teaches in Perth and is highly sought after, teaching workshops at festivals both nationally and abroad as well as performing for artists such as Stone Bwoy.

Cat Pwiti (Melbourne) – Jungle City Studios

Cat is the founder of Burncity Queenz (Melbourne’s first official Dancehall dance group), and the first Australian to compete in the homeland of Dancehall itself, Jamaica. Cat has supported legendary Dancehall artists including Cecile, Demarco, Gappy Ranks, Leftside and Elephant Man and is here to share her skills and experience with you.

Extremely knowledgeable in all styles of dancehall, Cart will present a truly authentic Jamaican dancehall class.

Local Instructors

Sarine Perdedjian (Sydney) - Dancer/Choreographer/Teacher

Sarine is a talented and passionate advocate of dance, and specifically in the styles of Dancehall and Afro-fusion. Sarine focuses on the cultural celebration of the foundational dances and its origins, as well as tuning in on movement quality, grooves and intricate musicality.

Sarine’s skills have seen her invited to teach workshops at numerous events and festivals, such as the Australian Dance Festival. With a Certificate IV in Performing Arts at Urban Dance Centre and completing her bachelor in Dance you are in the hands of an amazing dancer and performer.

Jamie Trahanas (Sydney) – Free It Up Dance

Jamie has a diverse background in dance, ranging from Latin to Caribbean styles with specialties in Salsa, Mambo and Soca. She has performed, taught and competed both locally and abroad. For the past 4 years Jamie has specialised in exposing and promoting the niche Caribbean genre, Soca, the Carnival music and dance of the English speaking Caribbean.

Jamie’s skills have seen her perform alongside some of the biggest artists in the Caribbean during Trinidad Carnival; including Machel Montano, Charly Black, Linky First and Patoranking. Jamie is also Australia’s first certified instructor and ambassador for SOKAFIT; the Caribbean dance fitness program.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

The classes are suitable for teenagers and adults.

What's the refund policy?

Refunds are not permitted.

Transfers permitted prior to the event date - $10 transfer fee applies. Email: info@caribbeansydney.com.au.

What level will the classes be?

Class levels will be open level unless otherwise stated.

Some basic dance experience recommended.

If I can't attend a workshop on one of the days, can I make it up the next day?

A day pass entitles you to 3 workshops only for the date specified. The two day pass provides access to any/all 6 workshops.
