Overview
SAFEMinds In Practice equips school staff to become 'Champions' in the NIP it in the bud! early intervention approach to support students.
This session is designed specifically for Victorian Department of Education schools. It’s delivered over one full day, with options to participate online or onsite. Make sure to check the delivery method when registering!

Please note, for ethical and clinical considerations, you are expected to be available and present for the entirety of the training. No part-time attendance is offered.

What’s the training about?
SAFEMinds: In Practice helps school staff become 'Champions' in using the NIP it in the bud! early intervention approach and the SAFEMinds Toolkit.
During the training you will:
- gain a deeper understanding of mental health in children and young people and how to recognise signs of distress
- learn about the NIP it in the bud! approach as a framework for responding to signs of distress
- explore resources in the SAFEMinds Toolkit
- apply the NIP it in the bud! approach to a video case study
- reflect on how to implement the NIP it in the bud! approach at your school.

Who Can Attend?
This training is for primary and secondary school staff within the Victorian Department of Education.

On the Day:
- Arrival: It’s important to arrive at least 15 minutes before the start time, as access will be denied if you arrive late, for clinical governance and emotional safety reasons.
- Technical Requirements: Log on with your own computer with a working microphone and camera. Please ensure your equipment is functioning properly before the training. Those who do not have a working camera or microphone will not be able to participate.
- Privacy: Due to the nature of this training, participants need to ensure their space is private enough so as not to be overheard by others, as conversations about self-harm and suicide will occur.
- Breaks: Regular breaks will be provided, along with a longer lunch break. BYO food, snacks, drinks, or even coffee to keep you refreshed.
