About this event

Critically acclaimed cellist, pedagogue, and composer David Pereira, accompanied by pianist Andrew Rumsey, present a program not to be missed. The program starts with the heavenly lyricism of Beach’s ‘Romance’, and is followed by the colossal Franck ‘Sonata in A major’ – a monumental work for cello and piano in equal measure. Following will be a collection of Australian works, including a world premiere composed especially for the event. Don't miss this sumptuous program!

David Pereira is considered to be one of the finest working cellists today. A Senior Lecturer at the ANU School of Music, he has been Principal Cellist of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and has appeared with such esteemed ensembles as the Australia Ensemble, the String Soloists of the Berlin Philharmonic, the Seymour Group, the Chilingirian Quartet, and the Sydney String Quartet, to name a few. He has won many awards, including twice winning the Sounds Australia Award for the Best Performance of an Australian Composition. Pereira has performed all the cello concertos and major concertante pieces from the standard repertoire, as well as premiering many concertos written for him. He has appeared in Europe, Russia, China, India, New Zealand, Japan and the Philippines, and has performed at such venues as Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Concertgebouw, and the Lincoln Centre.

Andrew Rumsey is a Southern Highlands-based pianist, teacher, and examiner for the Australian Music Examinations Board. A Masters graduate of the ANU School of music, concert appearances have taken him to China, Italy, Israel, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Canada, and the USA, including an appearance at Carnegie Hall in 2017. An advocate for new Australian music, Rumsey has premiered several Australian works domestically and abroad, including Michael Dooley’s Piano Concerto No.1 in C# minor and Australian Landscape Sketches.
