Event description

Description

For much of the twentieth century the names Leslie Walford and Dora Byrne were synonymous with style and glamour. Walford was one of Sydney’s best-known interior designers and Byrne, his socially prominent mother, was an elegant trendsetter and tireless worker for charitable causes.

Mother and son were often apart but wrote to each other regularly and frequently for more than forty years. They also saved their correspondence and this has now been edited and published.

Join the editor, Edith Ziegler, to hear about the close relationship of mother and son and their intertwined lives which, though privileged, were touched by tragedy and misfortune. You will get a glimpse into the glittering circles in which they moved and hear of their lively and opinionated insights into the design and fashions of their times.
