Event description

Description

Discussion with Professor Jonathan Shaw, Deputy Director, Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute reviewing the ‘Dark Heart of Diabetes’ report’.

The Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute invite Healthcare Professionals to join Professor Jonathan Shaw over dinner to discuss this recent report highlighting the sinister interplay between type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD), with CVD the number one cause of death among Australians and responsible for one-in-three deaths in people with type 2 diabetes. It reveals Australians living with type 2 diabetes are twice as likely to suffer a sudden cardiac death compared to those without the condition; that developing type 2 diabetes early in life is one of the greatest contributors to an early death; and CVD is a major contributor to the shortening of life expectancy by close to a decade (8.2 years for men and 9.1 years for women) for people with type 2 diabetes.
