Description

The devil’s in the details? No, the devil is the details!

Many participants at last year’s Data Modeling Zone US expressed a feeling of being under-valued, or downright
unvalued. As keynote speaker at last year’s Data Vault conference in the US, Scott Ambler confronted the data
professionals in attendance by saying many in management actively by-pass data professionals.
John was presenting at both these conferences, and has assembled a proactive 3-part response. One central theme is the delivery of what business people want, in a way they can understand, within the timeframe they demand. This presentation may challenge some long-held beliefs. Conversely, it may be refreshing, providing insight into a way forward.
The “trilogy” of topics specifically covered are:

  • Why we should do top-down modelling

  • How to do top-down modelling

  • Applying top-down models to one of many uses, in this case Data Vault design

“Note: Some of the topics are being progressively published on www.tdan.com - try searching on that website for “top down”. If you like, read the articles first, then come armed with questions and opinions for a fun and interactive session."

Speaker: John Giles

John Giles is an independent consultant, with a passion for seeing ideas taken to fruition. For two decades his focus has been on enterprise information modelling, enterprise information integration and enterprise information
architecture. Over the last few years he has also gained international recognition in Data Vault modelling.
John is primarily a practitioner, having been responsible for leading teams to successful delivery of IT solutions
across a wide diversity of industries. However, his pragmatic focus is backed up by a solid appreciation of the
underlying theory, having presented internationally, and published widely, including in his book titled The Nimble
Elephant: Agile delivery of data models using a pattern-based approach.
