Description

Cybersecurity: a big problem for small business – What exactly is cybersecurity about, and why is it important for small business? This workshop aims to explain the basic principles of cybersecurity, and provide insight into how small businesses can leverage the same techniques as large enterprises to protect themselves from online threats.

Join Corch from Shogun Cybersecurity as he discusses the importance of cyber security for small business.

The first mistake most small businesses make when it comes to cybersecurity is assuming they are not a target. According to Symantec however, more than 43% of cyber-attacks target small businesses, and the percentage is increasing year by year. Why do hackers bother? Doesn’t it make more sense to go after banks and other big businesses with lots of money?

The reality is that small businesses make easy targets for cyber-criminals. Compared to the corporate world, they lack the resources and experience to tackle cybersecurity effectively. Compounding this, cybersecurity is an invisible problem to small business, not because they are not being attacked, but because they don’t have any means to detect when they are… until it’s too late.

But what exactly is cybersecurity? Isn’t it enough to have anti-virus software and a personal firewall? Such a simple approach may have worked in 1997, but the Internet has evolved significantly in the last 20 years, and cyber-criminals have evolved with it. This seminar will explore how modern cybersecurity has adapted to respond to modern threats, and consider how the lessons learned in the corporate world can be applied in small business. We will also cover some of the most common online threats that are relevant to small business, and what to consider when planning how to deal with them.

Key takeaways from the presentation include an understanding of the nature of cybersecurity, and why taking a proactive approach is good business sense. Attendees will also benefit from increased awareness of online threats and how they can be dealt with. A Q&A session will also follow the presentation.
