ZINES! What are they? Who makes them? And why?

In this hands on workshop, learn all about the world of DIY self-publishing and how to start making zines yourself! Gain some useful stick and paste techniques, DIY printing tips and how to connect with a zine community.

You will walk away with your very own zine and a bag of tricks to show you how to make them again!

LEARN:

  • how to create a zine using 2 different layouts
  • how to use paper collage to create graphic images
  • fun ways to use text (on a typewriter!)
  • tips for printing and distributing your zine

BRING:

  • a theme for your zine (if you don't have one I can provide some ideas on the day)

Please Note: this worksop is aimed for young teenagers

ABOUT YOUR HOST:
Kim Siew is an artist, zine maker and educator with a love for story telling. She has been teaching workshops since 2010, guiding others to create their own uniques stories using different paper art and zine making techniques.

VENUE:

Located at Thirning Villa at 40 Arthur Street, Ashfield.

We are easily accessible via public transport. We are a 10 minute walk from Ashfield Station. From the station turn left onto Brown Street which will become Holden Street (alongside Ashfield Mall), turn right onto Arthur Street and you will see some tennis courts and a bowling green. Look for the striped roof in the middle of the tennis courts - that's Thirning Villa - to the left of the bowling green.

New Moon acknowledges the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land we live and meet on, the Gadigal-Wangal people of the Eora Nation, and pays respect to Elders past, present and future. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.

Did you know that all the proceeds from your ticket purchase go straight back into New Moon, not only to fairly pay our artists and contributors, but also to develop and program accessible, fun and affordable content for the community? Thank you for supporting us!

We love running workshops and special events at New Moon! We care about our audience and lovingly spend a lot of time preparing in advance, sourcing materials and ingredients to make sure we give you the best experience possible. Unfortunately we cannot offer ticket refunds for change of mind or last minute changes. Thank you.
