Event description

Description

Professor John Phillimore, Executive Director, John Curtin Institute of Public Policy, Curtin University

Mr Graham Hawkes, Former adviser to Minister for Parliamentary and Electoral Reform

Electoral reform in Western Australia has been a long process. While universal adult suffrage was largely achieved for the Legislative Assembly in 1907 – with the notable exception of Aboriginal people (who had to wait until 1962) – rural vote weighting continued until 2005, when it was effectively abolished.
