Curator's Tour: Behind the Blooms - Magnolias, Camellias and Rhododendrons

This Curator's Tour will provide valuable information about the selection and maintenance of Camellias, Magnolias and Rhododendrons. Learn about these enthralling cool - climate flowering plants and experience their stunning diversity first-hand at Mount Lofty Botanic Garden's iconic gullies.

In a field study, led by Mount Lofty Botanic Garden's Supervisor and flowering shrub expert Robert Hatcher, you'll learn about growing conditions, evergreen and deciduous varieties.

Experience the Garden's Rhododendron Gully - boasting one of Australia's best rhododendron collections - alone contains at least 150 species, with several threatened in the wild.

There are a further 40 species of Camellias and similar number of Magnolia / Magnoliaceae represented at the Garden's wildly popular Magnolia and South East Asian Gullies.

As the session involves walking up hills, appropriate footwear is required (sturdy shoes). Please bring wet weather gear as it is sometimes rainy and cold. A reasonable fitness level is required for this walk.
