Event description

Description

Come along to hear artist Nicola Dickson's reflections on her exhibition, The Naturalist's Footsteps.

Nicola Dickson visited south eastern Tasmania in 2016 to re-trace the steps of the naturalist Jacques Julien Houtou Labillardière, who was a member of the D'Entrecasteaux expedition which spent seven weeks exploring and mapping the area surrounding Recherche Bay in 1792 and 1793.

Labillardière collected thousands of plant specimens and published a remarkable account of his observations and interactions with the local area and its people.

The works in this exhibition try to capture the artist's experiences, informed by imagining past events and by a sense of place.

This project was supported by ArtsACT project funding.

The exhibition will be shown in the Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts gallery from 16 February to 30 June, 2018.
