Culture Up Late opens the museum after hours with a few extras including VR experiences, short and sweet tours, hands-on workshops, live music and performances. Enjoy a mid-week diversion with a bit of a difference! It’s also the perfect opportunity to enjoy the latest exhibitions, during its quieter moments.

FEB 14: ANTI-VALENTINES DAY

An evening exploring affairs of the heart in their many exquisite forms, dedicated to those unimpressed by crass commercialism, glib sentiment or lazy clichés.


• Live Music: The Acappelicans

The award-winning ensemble of songbirds bring their sparkling harmonies to songs of love gone right, and love gone wrong.

• Heart of the Matter Dissection Workshop

AM Scientists Drs Anja Divljan and Greta Frankham pull at heartstrings in this workshop in which you will get to dissect a pig's heart.


• Anti-Valentine's Day Card Crafts

Reach out and hurt somebody... Ace that heartfelt missive to the object of your disaffection in this anti-valentine cardmaking workshop led by anarchic anti-cupid Craig Bunkwaa.


• The Couples Game

Is anyone really knowable? Convinced your blissful union holds no secrets? Fancy the opportunity to discover where knowledge ends and mystery begins - in public? This game show is for you and your soulmate…


• Speed-hating

Are love and hate merely two sides of the same coin? Bond over what really gets your goat and connect with other single haters.

• Spot Tour: Making Love in the Wild
No sacrifice too great for your beloved? Discover the lengths creatures go to in this ultimate mating tour of our Wild Planet gallery. Experience personal favourites and hidden stories in these short, irreverent tours.

• Crafts: Make a Voodoo Doll of your Ex

Take revenge, exorcise some demons and harness powerful spirits (particularly your own): make a voodoo doll of your ex in this liberating workshop, sharp pins supplied.

• Conservatorium Compositions

Short, original musical compositions by Sydney Conservatorium of Music students, inspired by Australian Museum exhibitions.

Australian Museum’s knowledgeable volunteers open our collections to you in these intimate, personal and tactile interactions. Touch as much as you want, ask all the questions you can think of, learn something new!

• Spot Tours

Connect with our collection through the eyes of Australian Museum Staff. Go on an adventure through selected exhibits and experience the personal favourites and hidden stories in these short, informal tours.

• Adorned

Create your very own Indigenous-themed jewellery with natural materials.

• 3D Science and Technology

Get up close and personal with the scientists at the forefront of 3D scanning and printing technologies and how they are used by Museums for research, conservation and education.

• Magnificent Minerals with Mel Murray

Discover how elemental attraction and repulsion operate in the mineral world when Earth scientist Melissa Murray reveals the bonding chemistry at play in The Albert Chapman collection - one of the world's top 10 minerals collections.

• Mammoths: Giants of the Ice Age

Tickets include free access to the entire museum, including temporary exhibition Mammoths - Giant of the Ice Age.
