  • Ensuring work practices are grounded in awareness of one’s own cultural bias
  • Communication techniques that show respect
  • Strategies that encourage self-determination in service delivery
  • Understanding major incidents in Aboriginal history and their impacts on the behaviours and lack of trust of Aboriginal people
  • Understand world views, what shapes them, how they influence our interactions and the way we deliver services, and how Aboriginal people ‘walk in two worlds’
  • Understand the differences between Aboriginal ‘collective culture’ and Western ‘individualistic’ culture
  • Understand the importance or respect and engagement of collective cultures
