Description

An evening of open thinking and deep listening surrounding design with Jefa Greenaway and Timmah Ball. Jefa is a Wailwan|Kamilaroi architect and co-authored the International Indigenous Design Charter and Birrugunga/Melbourne woman, Timmah is an urban researcher.

Both speakers are creating informed, authentic and respectful environments, through design that protects and develops past, present and future manifestations of Australia’s indigenous peoples.

Come and listen to their ideas and actions.

Bookings essential. You do not need to bring a ticket with you to this event.

Jefa Greenaway of Greenaway Architects is a nationally recognised architect, academic (University of Melbourne), and advocate through Indigenous Architecture + Design Victoria (IADV) and a regular design commentator on ABC Radio. Over two decades he’s championed Indigenous led design, particularly through the International Indigenous Design Charter, as Regional Ambassador (Oceania) of INDIGO (International Indigenous Design Alliance). As a registered Indigenous architect in private practice in both NSW and Victoria, he seeks to reveal layers of history and memory through connections to place, demonstrating the value of people centred design which interrogates one’s own philosophical or ethical underpinning and design responsibilities.

Timmah Ball is an urban researcher and non-fiction writer whose writing is influenced by working across urban planning, zine making, and other creative forms. She grew up in Birrugunga /Melbourne but her heritage is Ballardong Noongar from Western Australia on her mother’s side. In 2017 she won the Westerly Magazine Patricia Hackett Prize and has written for a range of publications including Cordite, Un Magazine, The Lifted Brow, Meanjin, The Griffith Review, Going Down Swinging and other anthologies.
