In settings with a high TB burden and limited resources, diagnosing TB in young people is challenging. New approaches are needed.

We evaluated a tongue swab-based PCR testing for TB among adolescents in Vietnam.


This presentation will cover:

  1. Challenges in diagnosing TB in young people
  2. Methods and results of the TB-SWAB study
  3. Future uses for swab-based testing in TB


About the speaker:

Dr Emily MacLean is a Research Fellow at the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre and Associate Investigator at the Centre for Research Excellence in Tuberculosis Control (TB-CRE). She also serves as Lead of the New Diagnostics Working Group's Biomarkers Taskforce. Emily is interested in the epidemiology of tuberculosis, evidence synthesis, test evaluation methods, and new test assessment.
