Event description

Would you like to implement digital technologies in your classroom? This is the course for you!

You are invited to complete the free online professional development course from CSER Digital Technologies Education alongside a professional learning network. We have 60 spaces in this course, open to Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Teacher Education Students and Teachers.

There are 8 face-to-face meetups (one for each of the course modules), running from 5pm-7pm on Thursdays. Each session will have guest speakers: a teacher who has implemented digital technologies in a lesson, offering insight and feedback, and a representative from an organisation who can support you to extend your students' learning (such as ICTENSW). Attending is like 'plugging in' to a ready-made support network to help you stay ahead of the curve on digital technologies. No experience necessary.

Course dates:

  • 23rd March
  • 30th March
  • 6th April
  • 13th April (note that Good Friday is the following day)

(4 week break)

  • 18th May
  • 25th May
  • 1st June
  • 8th June

The course is designed to introduce the fundamental concepts of the Australian curriculum – starting with Algorithms and Data Representation and moving toward an introduction to Visual Programming. We will explore these ideas in the NSW context with real-life classroom examples from NSW classrooms.

No prior knowledge necessary. Perfect for all teachers and teacher education students of all year levels – to understand where students are starting from. We introduce activities and examples that relate to familiar classroom activities.

These events are brought to you by the Education Society, a student organisation of Macquarie University, with support from Macquarie University, the CSER Digital Technologies Foundation and ICTENSW.

Information for Teachers: Upon completion, the Foundations-Year 6 course entails a provider-endorsed 21 hours of accreditation, with other MOOCs offered eligible for self-nominated hours. Additionally, the MOOC Workshops provide a further 8 hours of self-nominated hours in addition to those for the courses themselves.

There are 3 MOOCs available:

  • Foundations-Year 6: Foundations
  • Foundations-Year 6: Extended
  • Years 7-8: Next Steps

Participants wishing to complete the Extended or Years 7-8 courses are advised to call Kathleen on 0423964879 who will advise enrolment and accreditation information to support you.
