Description

A new Australian works performed by the Third Year Graduating Music Theatre Company of Federation University Australia, Arts Academy

Crusade

A new Australian work by arrangement with No Mates Productions

Crusade is a show by internationally acclaimed Australian music theatre writer Craig Christie which is based upon the true story of how in the year 1212 a young shepherd boy led 30,000 children in an attempt to win back the Holy Land. This remarkable episode in history takes us into the world of mediaeval France, into the innocence and naivety of blind faith, into the treachery and darkness that lives in the minds of men while exploring the power and survival of the human spirit against all odds. It is a journey of hope!

Crusade is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its launch when it became and remains the biggest concert production of an original Australian musical in history upon its premiere in Hamer Hall, Melbourne in May 1998. Reimagined in collaboration with the third year music theatre students at Federation University to create an exciting new production the story of Crusade seems more relevant now than it was when it was first launched.

“As fodder for a musical goes, you can’t get much better than this…an extremely hard combination for any audience to resist’. (Review of the Edinburgh production – The Scotsman August 2000)
